Eero Remes, the enduro world champion, is coming to GGN to win!
PRESS RELEASE – June 28, 2022
Eero Remes, the 2015, 2016, and 2018 enduro world champion, is coming to Gotland and GGN to win!
The world’s largest enduro race—now in its 39th consecutive year—is now focusing on bringing back big names from outside Sweden. During the two pandemic years when GGN was able to take place against all odds, the event lost many international participants, especially those who come to win GGN.
“Of course, we’ve lost some big names from outside Sweden during the pandemic—athletes who were unable or not allowed to travel to Sweden and on to Gotland,” says Conny Bohlin, CEO of Nordic Sport & Event. “But now we’re looking forward to bringing in top-tier athletes who will add excitement to the elite field of talented Swedish competitors, who are always at the top and have proven themselves to be hard to beat on the 2.2 mil-long course,” Conny Bohlin continues.
– It’s now official that former Finnish Enduro World Champion Eero Remes will be racing in 2022; he last competed on Gotland and at the GGN in 2019. He’s a top contender who’s coming to win the GGN. Starting this year, we’ll see Eero Remes racing for Husqvarna Motorcycles.
– Eero Remes says himself that he has never been as well-prepared as he will be for this year’s Gotland Grand National. “I’m going to race in several circuit races in Sweden before the GGN to be as prepared as humanly possible. I’m going to win the 2022 GGN,” concludes Eero Remes.
The Gotland Grand National has also increased the prize money for the top male and female finishers, and at the 2022 GGN, the top male and female finishers will each take home 50,000 SEK. The runners-up will receive 25,000 SEK each, and third-place finishers will receive 10,000 SEK each. By 2023, the goal is 75,000 SEK for the winners, and by 2024, we hope to reach 100,000 SEK—at which point we’ll be able to showcase the absolute best in the world at the GGN, both on the women’s and men’s sides.
The Gotland Grand National is the world’s largest enduro race, with over 3,000 participants from about 17 different countries each year. In 2022, the race will take place on October 28–29 at the Tofta firing range on Gotland.
