GOTLAND GRAND NATIONAL 40 YEARS 2023 – 40 YEARS OF FUN 1984 – 2023!
INTEREST HAS NEVER BEEN GREATER!
The world’s largest enduro competition turns 40. The competition takes place October 26–28, 2023, on Gotland.
Nearly 1,200 of the more than 3,000 participants have already registered.
Nordic Sport & Event entered the GGN arena in 2013 and, over the past ten years, has worked to shape GGN’s future.
In 2022, when most major events in Sweden saw a decline of 15–25% in participant numbers, GGN grew by nearly 10%.
– We are thrilled that we achieved such impressive participation numbers in 2022 (3,266 registered, 2,980 at the start). This year’s goal is to set another record with 3,100 at the start, and we need 3,400 registered participants. “We’re convinced today that we have strong numbers because we managed to hold GGN during the pandemic when it was at its worst in 2020, with just over 2,000 participants and more than 6,000 visitors to GGN and Gotland,” says Conny Bohlin, CEO of Nordic Sport & Event.
“It was incredible for us to stand there with a completed GGN and no participants who had contracted the virus as a result of the event. We may be the only major event in Europe in 2022 that managed to pull it off. Today, we benefit significantly from the fact that our participants were never forced to take a 1- to 2-year break,” Conny Bohlin continues.
Some of the year’s highlights
– SVT Sport’s agreement for GGN 2023 is in place. There will also be over 5 hours of live TV coverage from GGN and Gotland this year.
The agreement between Nordic Sport & Event and SVT Sport was signed in the spring of 2022 and covers the next two years.
– Continued investment in international live TV so that interested people all over the world can follow GGN. Through a partnership with SVT Sport, Staylive, and Sportsground, we offered TV viewers outside Sweden the opportunity to stream GGN live for just 15 euros. This investment will continue in 2023.
– #GGN300GIRLS – this year, we will have 300 girls and women on the starting line. Before GGN 2021, we decided to work with some of our partners to get 300 girls and women on the starting line in a sport that is otherwise male-dominated. In 2022, we had 205 on the starting line, compared to 160 the year before.
– SEK 313,000 in prize money.
In 2023, there is a whopping SEK 313,000 in prize money across the various elite divisions, with the female and male winners each receiving a total of SEK 75,000, the runner-up SEK 40,000, and the third-place finisher SEK 15,000.
– GGN is investing in the German market before 2023.
Nordic Sport & Event is now investing in bringing GGN to the German market to attract more international participants to GGN and Gotland. We’re doing this by hiring Gjermund Frostad, who knows the industry and will visit several competitions in Germany this spring. This means we will also be translating the website into German shortly.
– Conny Bohlin concluded that we achieved great success in the German media by having world number three Larissa Papenmeier compete at GGN 2022.

NORDIC SPORTS & EVENT CELEBRATES 10 YEARS!
On Saturday, April 15, 2023, we celebrated our 10th anniversary and were also named the best in Sweden in our industry in 2022.
Nordic Sport & Event began developing GGN for the future. For a while, we had a total of eight events, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have canceled six of them. We decided to focus on the two largest ones, located on Gotland, which made the decision easier, says Conny Bohlin, CEO of Nordic Sport & Event.
In 2023, the company will hold the following two competitions. More than 10,000 travelers visit Gotland, generating nearly SEK 100 million in revenue for the business community through travel, lodging, dining, and shopping.
– Perhaps Sweden’s funniest and largest golf tournament, Golfa Runt Gotland, with 640 participants every May. In 2023, the tournament will be held May 7–11. I’ll turn 20 in 2024.
– The world’s largest enduro competition, the Gotland Grand National, attracts over 3,000 participants from 15 countries every October. It celebrates its 40th anniversary and will be held October 26–28, 2023.
INDUSTRY WINNER
After ten years in the business, the company was awarded the title of INDUSTRY WINNER FOR THE YEAR 2022, which means we were the best in Sweden in our segment.
Thank you to the participants, partners, suppliers, associations, audience, and media who make this possible year after year.
