UPDATED NEWS GGN 2.0 2024.
On June 13, 2024, the Gotland County Administrative Board approved the EIS—Environmental Impact Statement—that Nordic Sport & Event submitted on June 4, 2024, in order to obtain a permit to organize the Gotland Grand National 2.0 in 2024. This decision was then announced on July 17, and on July 19, we finally received positive news: the County Administrative Board approved the hosting of the GGN in Hejdeby in 2024.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN, AND WHAT HAPPENS NOW?
After nearly 12 months of mapping, surveys, and sampling—with preventive investments totaling over 400,000 SEK and more than 100 meetings with landowners, private individuals, government agencies, and various stakeholders—GGN 2.0 has taken a step closer to launching in 2024. We are now awaiting the matter to become legally binding so that we may, in accordance with the law, begin the work, which we expect to start this August.

– Conny Bohlin, CEO of Nordic Sport & Event, says that we have now taken another step forward—one we’ve been waiting for—toward organizing GGN 2.0 on Gotland in 2024 as well.
“After 40 years at the Tofta Shooting Range, we now hope to build the GGN course of the future—a world-class facility for participants, partners, visitors, and TV viewers,” Conny Bohlin adds.
This has been a very interesting and educational journey for us as organizers, and we have seen GGN 2.0 evolve in its concept to adapt the competition for the future while showing great respect and consideration for the nature and wildlife in Hejdeby.
“Even though there is still some work ahead in the process, we expect to be able to begin construction of the future GGN arena (track) in August, once GGN 2.0 becomes legally binding,” says a happy and relieved Conny Bohlin of Nordic Sport & Event.
– As the organizer, we now hope that one of the various environmental organizations will join us in a project to protect, preserve, and develop the area in Hejdeby, where we will take responsibility as the organizer throughout the entire process and work to promote biodiversity in the area.
