IT'S OFFICIAL! THE GOTLAND GRAND NATIONAL HAS NOW RECEIVED APPROVAL FOR 2025!
FOLLOWING THE SUCCESS OF 2024! GREAT NEWS FROM THE GOTLAND COUNTY ADMINISTRATION!
It has now been confirmed that the world's largest enduro race, the Gotland Grand National (GGN 2.0), will once again be held in Hejdeby on Gotland in 2025.
The County Administrative Board has decided that this decision shall take effect in its entirety immediately, even if it is appealed.
“This early decision by the county administrative board will now give us, as the organizers, the peace of mind we so desperately need,” says Conny Bohlin, CEO of Nordic Sport & Event. “The key point of the decision is that the competition is now 100% certain to take place, even if someone were to appeal.”
The organizer, Nordic Sport & Event, has applied to Region Gotland for a permanent track in Hejdeby. This means that the organizer has applied for a building permit for the track. However, to ensure this year’s enduro competition could take place in a timely manner, the organizer also applied to the county administrative board for a temporary exemption from the Off-Road Driving Act, as it did in preparation for 2024.
“As organizers, we have a great responsibility toward the sport, the audience, TV viewers, partners, suppliers, and—not least—the 100 miljoner that Gotland’s business community generates in revenue each year through our competition,” says Conny Bohlin.
Once the building permit is granted, Nordic Sport & Event will no longer need to apply to the county administrative board for the relevant exemption every year; instead, the track will be approved for the competition each year.
– We’re approaching 1,000 registrations (the goal is 3,200), and since we opened registration in October 2024, we’ve been working purposefully on the two separate tracks—the building permit and the temporary exemption—to ensure that GGN 2.0 can take place in 2025. “The fact that we now have the peace of mind to work toward the long-term development of the competition in the new area in Hejdeby is absolutely crucial,” says Conny Bohlin.
“In 2024, the focus was on convincing the authorities and the courts that we, as the organizer, will take responsibility for the competition and the area’s natural values, and that GGN 2.0 belongs on Gotland after 40 years at the Tofta firing range,” Conny Bohlin continues.
Gotland needs GGN, and GGN needs Gotland.
