BST Racing on SVT Sörmland
A welcoming environment, people you can trust to ask for help, and plenty of encouragement—that’s what BTS Racing in Sörmland hopes to offer women who want to start riding enduro.
They are often seen training on the Hålbybanan track in Strängnäs, but the seven regular members are spread out across several towns in and outside of Sörmland. They have varying levels of experience with enduro, but they share a strong common drive: they love their sport and want to encourage more women to discover it.
Believes it will double
One of their short-term goals is to compete in the annual Gripendygnet enduro race in Strängnäs, which will take place August 6–8 this year. They’ll be joined by a whole group of new female riders who will compete under the team’s name.
“We’re fielding three teams, and one woman will be competing in the Dakar class. We think we’ll double the number of female drivers compared to previous years,” says Sophie West, one of the founders of BTS Racing.
Want to see collaborations
The team conveys its goal of attracting more girls to the sport through social media, among other channels. But is the enthusiasm of a single team enough to influence an entire sport?
“The more people who try to make it easier for girls, the better. Collaboration between different organizations would be ideal. There are race organizers who have now set goals to attract more girls, lower entry fees, and so on—I think that’s really great,” says Frida Gustafsson, one of the team members.
