YES TO THE GOTLAND GRAND NATIONAL 2.0
After 11 months of work on GGN 2.0, the County Administrative Board approved the new track in Hejdeby. However, the decision has been appealed and is now pending before the Land and Environment Court and the Administrative Court. CEO Conny Bohlin explains more about how the appeals are being handled [Link:https://sverigesradio.se/avsnitt/2435874#2731].
The appeals have been filed by a small number of private individuals who do not even live near the track. We have had positive discussions with judges, justices, and case administrators, who understand the event’s significance for Gotland and all participants. These cases are being given very high priority, and decisions from both courts are expected shortly. Although those who have appealed may appeal once more to the Administrative Court of Appeal and the Land and Environment Court of Appeal, this requires leave to appeal, which is granted in extremely few cases.
We’re now looking back on when we managed to pull off GGN during a very difficult pandemic, proving to everyone that it was possible. We are fully committed to hosting this year’s GGN 2.0 and are now awaiting confirmation so we can begin work on the course. Our forestry contractors are ready to start work on the new GGN course in Hejdeby. SVT Sport will arrive on Gotland September 2–4 to test the new camera angles.
We are approaching the final day for seeding on August 31, 2024. After this date, the registration fee will increase by 400 SEK for the elite and recreational classes, and by 100 SEK for all other classes.
As for the additional trips with Destination Gotland/Idrottens Ö, we are just waiting for the courts' decision before they can be added.
