SEEDING HAS BEEN EXTENDED UNTIL SEPTEMBER 6, 2024
Today, Tuesday, we decided to extend the seeding period and postpone the fee increase until Friday, June 9, at midnight.
Here we explain why:
On August 23, 2024, the Land and Environment Court (nature, animals, and environment) rejected the appeals against GGN 2.0. We are awaiting the Administrative Court’s ruling (Off-Road Driving Act) this week. We are 100% certain that the appeal will be rejected there as well.
As soon as the Administrative Court issues its ruling, Destination Gotland will add additional tours.
Those who have appealed may proceed to the Court of Appeals (off-road driving law) and the Land and Environment Court (nature, animals, and the environment), but only by filing a new appeal. Both courts then consider a so-called motion for leave to appeal (whether the appellants have the right to appeal). In the next instance, the judgments of the Land and Environment Court and the Administrative Court are mostly the same.
Once the Administrative Court has issued its ruling, Destination Gotland will add additional ferry trips. Those who have filed an appeal may take the matter further to the Court of Appeals and the Land and Environmental Appeals Court, but they will need leave to appeal in order to proceed. However, it is unusual for these rulings to be overturned in a higher court.
GGN 2.0 will take effect in early October. We can’t wait for the seeding and everything else until then because there won’t be a GGN 2.0. GGN 2.0 will be implemented as early as 2024. We expect to launch the track and the arenas within two weeks.
The seeding date is crucial because managing starting positions, bib numbers, and other details for the 3,300 participants is a time-consuming process. We need to print bibs, order timing chips, medals, and trophies in the correct quantities, and ensure that everything is delivered on time. The fee increase helps us confirm the exact number of participants as early as possible, which makes planning easier.
We simply have to be able to plan the world’s largest enduro competition well in advance so that the event is a success and so that the participants, spectators, TV viewers, and partners are satisfied with us as organizers.
