REGISTRATION CLOSES TODAY AT MIDNIGHT!
Today, Friday, September 6, at midnight.
Here's why:
On August 23, 2024, the Land and Environment Court (Nature, Animals, and Environment) rejected the appeals against GGN 2.0. We are now awaiting the ruling from the Administrative Court (Off-Road Driving Act) this week. We are 100% confident that the appeal will be rejected here as well.
As soon as the Administrative Court issues its ruling, Destination Gotland will add extra trips.
Those who have appealed may proceed to the Administrative Court of Appeal (Off-Road Driving Act) and the Land and Environment Court of Appeals (nature, wildlife, and the environment) by filing a new appeal. Both courts will then consider a so-called “leave to appeal” (whether the appellants have the right to appeal). The rulings of the Land and Environment Court and the Administrative Court rarely differ in the next instance.
Once the Administrative Court’s ruling is finalized, Destination Gotland will add extra ferry trips. Those who have appealed may choose to take the case to the Court of Appeal and the Land and Environment Court of Appeal, but they will need leave to appeal in order to proceed. However, it is unusual for these rulings to be overturned in higher courts.
GGN 2.0 will become legally binding in early October. We can’t wait until then to start the seeding and everything else, because then there won’t be a GGN 2.0. GGN 2.0 will be implemented as early as 2024. We expect to begin work on the course and the arenas within two weeks.
The registration deadline is important because managing starting positions, race numbers, and similar details for the 3,300 participants is a complex process. We need to print race numbers, order timing chips, medals, and trophies in the correct quantities, and ensure that everything is delivered on time. The fee increase helps us secure the right number of participants as early as possible, which makes planning easier.
Quite simply, we need to be able to plan the world’s largest enduro race well in advance so that the event turns out well and so that participants, spectators, TV viewers, and partners are satisfied with us as the organizer.
