Larissa Papenmeier from Germany is set to compete in the 2022 Gotland Grand National (GGN).
With four months to go until the world’s largest enduro race, the Gotland Grand National, the GGN has secured the participation of one of Europe’s most accomplished female motocross riders.
German rider Larissa Papenmeier has won 10 World Championship races and has finished in the top 3 overall in the Women’s World Championship five times.
“We’re so happy that our efforts to attract female participants are starting to pay off,” says Conny Bohlin, CEO of Nordic Sport & Event. These efforts are being made in two ways. Through a new prize fund for women totaling 50,000 SEK—with 50,000 SEK for the winner, 25,000 SEK for second place, and 10,000 SEK for third place—we’re attracting elite athletes from across Europe to Gotland and the GGN.
“The second initiative is to reach 300 girls and women by 2023 by offering a 50% discount on the entry fee for women who have never participated in GGN before,” Conny Bohlin concludes.
– Larissa Papenmeier says she’s really looking forward to coming to Gotland and competing in the GGN in October. “I’ve heard about this major, prestigious competition, and I’m coming to stand at the top of the podium. As soon as the World Championship season is over, I’ll start training for the GGN. It’s a completely different kind of competition than what I’m used to, but I’m looking forward to the challenge.”
“It’s also absolutely fantastic that they’re investing in women; that makes me really happy. And I’m so excited to meet everyone and join the GGN in October. It’s thanks to Yamaha Europe – Scandinavia, the Yamaha Johansson MPE team, and FXR Racing that I’m able to come to Gotland and the GGN,” Larissa concludes.

The Gotland Grand National is being held for the 39th consecutive year and is the world’s largest enduro race, with over 3,000 participants each year. Riders from about 17 different countries come to Gotland to take on this tough challenge. The classes are Elite, Recreational, Veteran, Military, Electric, Youth, and Gold Helmet.
Nordic Sport & Event, together with nine of its partners, has set a goal of attracting 300 girls and women to the GGN 2023. In 2021, approximately 125 participants took part. This year’s goal is over 200.
The Gotland Grand National will take place on October 28–29, 2022.
