Nordic Sport & Event which arranges Gotland Grand National together with EMX Gotland introduce a completely new class on this year’s competition.

Gotland Grand National, which is being arranged for the 38th year in a row and with about 3,000 participants each year, is now investing in E-Bike together with two different special sports federations. It is the Swedish Motorsports Federation (Svemo) and the Swedish Cycling Federation (SCF) who both enter with joy  in this new investment that is now being made on Gotland and GGN.

The competitions that will be carried out on Thursday 28 October 2021 (the day before GGN starts) will be carried out with the same structure and conditions as GGN basically. The cycling time will be 2 hours and the winner in the different classes is the one who gets around the most laps in the shortest time.

E-Bike is a growing sport in Europe and is underway in Sweden but there are no major competitions yet and we are very much looking forward to arranging an E-Bike competition which will be held on about 10 km of the total of 22 km as the entire GGN track is, says Conny Bohlin, CEO of Nordic Sport & Event.

The competition is divided into two different categories, one with the Swedish Cycling Federation MTB E-Bike Pedalec 250w / 25km / h and one with E-Bike Pedalec Over 250w which is under Svemo.

The classes that will be relevant the first year are.

MTB E-Bike Pedalec 250w / 25km / h Motion, Women
MTB E-Bike Pedalec 250w / 25km / h Exercise, Men
MTB E-Bike Pedalec 250w / 25km / h Elitmotion, Women
MTB E-Bike Pedalec 250w / 25km / h Elite Motion, Men
E-Bike Pedalec Over 250w, Women
E-Bike Pedalec Over 250w, Men

Based on a spontaneous conversation with Conny Bolin (CEO of Nordic Sport & Event) in mid-June regarding a possible interest in including E-Bike (Pedalec) as a separate class in this year’s GGN, to be able to present this launch today feels little surreal. But this is the fruit of intensive work in a positive spirit between all three parties involved, Svemo, Nordic Sport & Event and the Swedish Cycling Federation. Hopefully this opportunity is the start of a strong development of the E-Bike business in Sweden in the future, says Tony Olsson, responsible for E-Bike at the Swedish Motorsport Federation (Svemo).

– Malin Lindgren at the Swedish Cycling Federation, This will be a bit of a historic event that we have now come so far in launching MTB E-Bike in such an established competition as GGN. We are very grateful for this opportunity that we have in collaboration with Svemo and Nordic Sport & Event. By 2022, we look forward to opening up to competition classes nationally in MTB E-bike as a step in the development within SCF.
